This procedure is indicated for patients who have an obstruction in urinary bladder/ureter which is obstructing the flow of urine and causing retention of urine in kidney.
What is the underlying problem?A tumour in urinary bladder/ureter is causing luminal obstruction and hampering the flow of urine resulting in kidney failure .
What are the consequences of postponing / worst complication if left untreated?Unless treated at the right time the obstruction tightens more, patient will have more pain and may land in kidney function failure.
How is it diagnosed?USG/ CT/ MRI Abdomen.
What are the steps of procedure? The block is crossed using wire and catheters, lumen is opened using a balloon and sometimes stents are used to preserve the lumen.
Why Percutaneous approach? As most of the patients are unfit for the surgical options and interventional radiology offers solution through a 3mm hole under local anaesthesia as a day care procedure.
