Who requires this procedure ?

This procedure is indicated for patients who have an obstruction in urinary bladder/ureter which is obstructing the flow of urine and causing retention of urine in kidney.

What is the underlying problem?

A tumour in urinary bladder/ureter is causing luminal obstruction and hampering the flow of urine resulting in kidney failure .

What are the consequences of postponing / worst complication if left untreated?

Unless treated at the right time the obstruction tightens more, patient will have more pain and may land in kidney function failure.

How is it diagnosed?

USG/ CT/ MRI Abdomen.

What are the steps of procedure?

The block is crossed using wire and catheters, lumen is opened using a balloon and sometimes stents are used to preserve the lumen.

Why Percutaneous approach?

As most of the patients are unfit for the surgical options and interventional radiology offers solution through a 3mm hole under local anaesthesia as a day care procedure.
